Flood Warning: Protecting our Cities

Meteorologists say that extreme rainfall events are becoming more severe, sudden and frequent because of a simple law of physics: warmer air holds more moisture. And global temperatures are rising.

In this episode, we take a closer look at what communities and industry have learned from the past that can protect them now and in the future from worsening flooding due to rainfall, storm surge, snow melt and sea-level rise. What are the smart solutions that are helping cities avoid and reduce the impact of flooding?

Anna Åkesson, Group Environmental Manager for Skanska, examines innovations and solutions implemented to protect communities at risk of flooding around the world.

And with increasing urbanization, major cities are particularly vulnerable to floods and extreme weather. C40 is a global network of nearly 100 mayors of the world’s leading cities, working to tackle the climate crisis. Pedro Ribeiro, Head of C40’s Water Program, explains what they are doing right now to improve cities' resilience against flooding.
